Being a tv personality who has appeared in commercials, films and newscasts, looking youthful and refreshed is important. I’ve tried all of the latest cosmetics procedures that are popular among Hollywood celebrities. In fact, it was when I was living in Los Angeles pursuing an acting career that I was turned on to these procedures only to discover that they also exist in New York. The newest anti-aging treatment is Lutronics LaseMD. I traveled from my home in Manhattan to a Russian neighborhood in Brooklyn for skin rejuvenation, which was administered by the Ukrainian-born Dr. Tatiana Khrom, a board-certified dermatologist and founder of Khrom Dermatology located at 2797 Ocean Parkway. The entire procedure was under an hour and included a mask. The sensation of the laser touch was similar to a micro-dermabrasion scrape except without the crystal tip. Upon completion, my skin looked sun-kissed as if I had spent a day at the beach instead of the office. I was given a serum that would brighten my face while healing the effects of the light filled laser. Below are more details about the revolutionary treatment.

Does a Lutronics LaseMD treatment replace cosmetic procedures such as botox, fillers, peels or facials?

Dr. Khrom: LaseMD enhances the quality of your skin tone and texture and is used in addition to things like Botox and Juvederm. It interrupts the aging process of the skin. Before, we only had available to us a fully ablative laser resurfacing, which was used for very heavy sun damaged skin, wrinkling or deep acne scarring. Now, we have LaseMD to work with, which is non-ablative and requires less downtime for healing.

How is Lutronics LaseMD different from traditional lasers of the past?

Dr. Khrom: It changes the skin over while stimulating collagen production. In just one treatment, you’ll see improvement in pigmentation, fine lines and in brightness. It also allows for different levels of intensity. The laser can be very light or it can be increased in energy to make it more aggressive. The light from the laser itself then creates microchannels in the skin through which the serum is better able to penetrate and regenerate collagen production.

What does the aftercare entail?

Dr. Khrom: Afterwards, you might look bronzed or tanned. We provide our clients with serum to use morning and night for 5 to 7 days, which helps the skin recover from the laser. Then we advise applying a mineral based sunscreen that’s level 30 or higher before going out for the day and reapply as needed. We use the Jane Iredale brand of mineral based sunscreen and advise our clients to supplement treatments with a daily vitamin called Heliocare to protect against sun related damage, such as wrinkles and age spots.

How many treatments before you see results?

Dr. Khrom: One treatment will give you 30% improvement so we recommend a series of two or three depending upon the condition of your skin.

What’s the best time of year?

Dr. Khrom: September or October so that you can look your best before the Christmas holidays start.
